Whole Foods Cuts Prices as New Owner Amazon Takes Charge
The final hurdles have been cleared. Amazon is about to take over control of Whole Foods and it appears that they aren’t wasting any time making it “Amazon-like.” Effective Monday morning, prices at Whole Foods will be slashed.
The Wall Street Journal reports that:
Amazon said Thursday it will also introduce a customer rewards program at Whole Foods and new deals through its Prime membership program, a key way to drive more shopping. Amazon added that it plans to close its acquisition of Whole Foods on Monday.
“We’re determined to make healthy and organic food affordable for everyone,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer.
Changes coming soon include an Amazon locker in Whole Foods’ stores so you can pick up your Amazon orders while grocery shopping. For those who are concerned about packages being stolen from in from of your home, this is a great option.
Amazon will also start marketing Whole Foods’ 365 brand on Amazon.com.
Shoppers have been leaving Whole Foods of late, time will tell if these and other changes will bring them back. I for one, will check out Whole Foods to see prices have indeed come down enough to justify a regular, weekly visit to this supermarket.
